Corval was the general contractor for a new precast addition to and renovation of the Minneapolis Pipefitters Joint Apprentice Training Committee (JATC) Training Facility. The completed project included lab space, renovated offices, new restrooms and classrooms, a mezzanine added to the existing building, a new service elevator, geothermal and in-floor heating, and a new mechanical room.
The mechanical room was the highlight of the new construction work, constructed to be a functioning example of a wide range of mechanical equipment. It will be a primary training tool for the instructors at the facility moving forward. Coordinating all the different mechanical equipment and components in such a limited space was a key challenge of the project. Every aspect of the project construction was centered around training for current and future students. Corval coordinated with the Engineer-of-Record to provide a functioning 3D Revit model to the JATC to be used for future training curriculum.
