City of Duluth/Evergreen Energy – Hot Water System

Share Project:

Corval installed a new piping system for the City of Duluth, switching it from a city steam system to a city hot water system. We took the 18” supply and return piping from tie-ins located outside the main steam plant and ran the remaining piping into the plant through a new air separator. In addition, we installed three 200 hp in-line distribution pumps and new steam-to-hot-water heat exchangers back to supply tie-in. The project additionally included the installation of high-pressure steam trains that provided the steam to steam to hot water heat exchangers.

Under Corval’s scope were the subcontracts for earthwork and helical piles for new structural steel intended to support the new piping system, supply and installation of structural steel, supply, and installation of new control items (including transmitters, transducers, VFDs, and control cabinet), and piping insulation.
