City of Duluth / Evergreen Energy – Hot Water System

Balance of Plant scope involved completing the piping system for the City of Duluth’s switch over from a city steam system to a city hot water system. Involved taking 18″ supply and return piping from tie-ins located utsid the main steam plant and running the remaining piping into the plant, through a new air separator, three quantity 200 hp in-line distribution pumps, and new steam to hot water heat exchangers back to supply tie-in. Additionally included the installation of high pressure steam trains that provided the steam to steam to hot water heat exhcangers. Under Corval’s scope were the subcontracts for earthwork and helical piles for new structural steel intended to support new piping system, supply and install of structural steel, supply and installation of new controls items (including transmitters, transducers, VFD’s and control cabinet), and piping insulation.
