Description
Agrium Kenai Nitrogen Operations (KNO) faced permanent closure due to lack of natural gas feed-stock available in the Cook Inlet region. Agrium retained Corval Group to help establish the feasibility of using coal gasification to provide the solution to their feed-stock availability problem.
The goal was to design new gasification and power plant facilities that would provide both natural-gas feed-stock as well as steam and electric power to meet the energy needs of the plant. Any excess electrical power would be used for export.
Corval Group teamed with Black & Veatch for the feasibility study to finalize the technical and performance parameters of the gasification plant including a constructability review of the entire design, complete construction cost estimates and a comprehensive labor study.
Project Highlights
- Comprehensive constructability review of the entire design basis
- Complete construction estimates including the steam generator and auxiliary systems
- Creation of a cost-effective labor plan covering all phases of the project
Throughout the feasibility study process, Corval Group worked to find ways to maximize efficiency and contain costs. A strong focus was placed on maximum modularization of equipment prior to shipment. Corval worked closely with the prospective equipment manufacturers in order to achieve that goal. Corval also worked closely with local labor unions while creating a feasible labor plan.
